Politics as Usual

This is not a post trying to get you to vote for Hillary Clinton. Don't get me wrong, that's my girl but I have something else to pick your brains about. I spent the last five months interning for Hillary for America and there were tons of ups and downs but such is life.. and I digressed. But the reason I wanted to intern for a political campaign again (I interned with John Connolly's campaign for Mayor of Boston back in 2013) was because the world of government and reform is a world of adrenaline and astute.

I need y'all to see this and then I'll move on.
Dis me, a WOC & Millennial outchea tryna make a positive impact.
Being a Communications Intern for a Presidential campaign put a plethora of perspectives in play and of course I spent a great deal of time monitoring the campaign via social media, just like the rest of America. From what I gathered I noticed that the silver lining of social media is that it not only gives people a platform to engage and express but it also gives people a platform to turn opinion into fact.
Social media is our generation's gift to the past, present and future; it's one of the many marks we have left in history. Like.. we real life created ways to communicate with anyone willing and learn and teach through the world wide web.
But be vary of what you read.
Now, I will use the word "we" very loosely because obviously what I'm saying doesn't apply to everyone. Shit, I hope not.
We read editorial articles based on any topic, specifically current events, and we chisel this newfound "information" into our brain and deem it as fact because hey, someone posted it online so it kinda sorta must be true... maybe. Do not be swindled by hyperlinks that serve as supporting details for this person's claims.
Yes, they have a link that proves that what they're saying is fact but who's to say that this one quote is being used properly? Si, this quote appropriately justifies the author's stance, but what about other stances that haven't been raised/dissected? Oui, this article is a well written, concise think-piece with beautiful imagery via adjective but can you get through the fluff and form an opinion?
All in all I want everyone to challenge themselves to think and then ask Google a question. Be curious and go beyond what you're being told. This isn't a movement to #StayWoke and be fake deep but to give yourself the opportunity to educate yourself and seek higher ideals for yourself and those around you. I'm interested in politics so I tested my curiosity by joining a campaign during one of the biggest elections in history and I challenged myself to not be a dumb bitch and just keep asking "why?" until I was satisfied... temporarily, of course.
