Hollywood Egos Can Cause "More Issues Than Vogue"

Interns do grunt work. You need coffee? No prob. You want me to come in early/stay late to help you with your workload? Okay, cool. Will I allow you to stunt on me because of your career title? Debatable. It's debatable because I may or may not have enough blessings to cash in some karma for you. There's nothing like saying, "There is a God" after you see the right amount of karma fall onto someone who tried you.
I worked K. Michelle's More Issues Than Vogue listening party and I barely worked. There was a hired catering company that handled majority of my usual intern @ the company function grunt work. So I got to eat donuts and candy, drink (water), and network while some R&B meets Country but is lowkey checking for Rap music played in the background.
The event was vibrant, the theme coordinated with K. and her latest work.
What also went hand in hand that night was the industry's game players and their Hollywood egos.
It was refreshing to rack up on sugar in less than five hours. It was always a reality check to see how some people flexed on others. Having an ego isn't awful, it's just your delivery and timing when you show your true colors that matters.
3 things I learned from being in a room full of industry people who bask in narcissism:
1. Don't disrespect the help.
People who wait on you don't do it by choice; they do it for a check so respect their hustle.
2. Play on someone else's ego.
Give a compliment and it'll probably start a conversation then grab a business card or give yours - just exchange contact info!
3. Listen before you speak.
I would never approach the CEO of a company or EIC of a publication without knowing their title first. (People at the top tend to care more about you knowing their position than their name. I know, it's shallow but an observation I've made) So eavesdrop until you can profile them then approach or don't approach and just keep them in a Rolodex in your head.
